Play with purpose

Pediatric occupational therapy rooted in neuroscience

Welcome to Purple Crayon Therapy, where neuroscience meets play to help your child grow.

We specialize in pediatric occupational therapy, focusing on playful, purposeful activities that support neurodivergent children. Here, your child is celebrated, seen, and nurtured in a space designed to inspire confidence, joy, and growth.

Our mission

At Purple Crayon Therapy, we envision a world where every child is celebrated for who they are, supported through meaningful connections, and empowered to thrive through playful, purposeful therapy. We strive to create a nurturing space where neurodivergent children feel safe, seen, and capable — developing the foundational skills they need to grow with confidence and joy.

What is pediatric occupational therapy?

Pediatric Occupational Therapy (OT) supports children in developing essential life skills through meaningful play and activities. Our approach is deeply rooted in neuroscience, ensuring therapy is effective, engaging, and tailored specifically to your child's unique needs. OT helps children enhance their motor skills, emotional regulation, social interactions, and independence in everyday tasks.

What is Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI)?

Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) is a therapy approach that helps individuals, especially children with autism, manage and respond to sensory experiences. Originally developed by Dr. A. Jean Ayres, ASI uses play-based activities in specialized settings to improve how the brain processes sensory information—like touch, movement, sight, and sound.

Therapy sessions involve carefully guided, playful activities that help children develop skills such as motor coordination, self-regulation, attention, and social interaction. ASI is distinct from other sensory-based methods because it's evidence-based and specifically structured to encourage the brain's natural responses, leading to better learning, behavior, and participation in daily life.

Loved by kids, trusted by parents

Don’t take our word for it, here are some things our clients have to say about us.

“We're thrilled to have Rubika back at the clinic! After trying a few other therapy places, nothing else felt quite right for our family.

Rubika has thoughtfully built this clinic to support kids with sensory challenges, creating an environment that's welcoming, and fun. She deeply understands sensory integration, and her approach has made a world of difference for our child.

Since returning to her care, we've noticed incredible progress, improved confidence, and genuine excitement about therapy sessions.

Rubika’s warmth, dedication, and specialized expertise truly set her apart.”

— James

“We have been coming to Rubika for two years, and with her help, Max has improved significantly.

Her unique approach to therapy through play has made a tremendous difference. By engaging kids in a playful and supportive environment, she helped Max learn how to go down a slide and enjoy the swing-milestones we once thought were out of reach.

Her space feels more like a children's playground than a clinic-it's truly amazing.

Max is a 6-year-old boy on the spectrum, and we've seen so many beautiful moments during our time with Rubika. In our last session, Max told her he needed to go "pee pee," and they went to the washroom together. It might seem like a small thing, but for us, it was a huge step in communication and independence.

Max trusts her completely. After not seeing her for a whole year, he looked at her, smiled, walked straight toward her, gave her a hug. For me, that moment was absolutely precious.

Thank you, Rubika”

Frequently asked questions

  • We help kids of all ages with disabilities, illnesses, and injuries do what they need to do to function in life with confidence and independence. If they need to learn how to play, eat, or get dressed, Occupational Therapy can help build skills to tackle various tasks.

    For example:

Fine motor - Brushing teeth, using utensils, writing

Visual motor - Reading and writing, completing puzzles

Self-care - Using the toilet, Dressing and undressing, washing or grooming

Gross motor - Climbing obstacles, increasing spatial awareness, balance

Sensory processing - Reacting to sensory input through things they hear, see, taste, touch and smell

At Purple Crayon, we make sure to set up realistic goals for the children we work with. Sometimes that means taking a step back and working on the fundamentals.

If your child hasn't built the strength to hold a pencil, then focusing on writing may become frustrating and cause them to dislike therapy. So we leverage playful activities that build up your child's strength to help them achieve the ultimate goal of writing. Plus, this fundamental work often helps with other tasks.

  • Ultimately this is up to you and the needs of your child. Some children may need to be in therapy longer than others. We’ll discuss their needs with you and be there to help your child develop their skills as long as they require support. Our ultimate goal is to build the independence they need to navigate the world.

  • We work with anyone from birth to 18 years old. Plus, there does not have to be a diagnosis to see a therapist at our clinic. We can see everyone from premature babies, children with autism, those dealing with sensory issues, coordination issues, and more.

  • Our therapy methods are based on groundbreaking research by Dr. A Jean Ayres which recommends that OTs engage with children throughout the session. Kids don't often realize they are receiving therapy because we embed it into playful activities backed by years of science and research. So kids feel like they're playing, but in reality, they're building strength, coordination and skills.

  • We work with parents, schools and their community to ensure they have the support needed to increase their quality of life. Sometimes kids don't have the strength and skills to complete tasks or goals in their daily lives. In those cases, we can help supplement their experience with adaptive equipment or teach them new ways to do tasks.

For example, if a child has issues printing during school, we can collaborate with their school to allow the child to use a laptop so they can keep up with their classmates. At the same time, we’ll work on the fundamental skills needed for printing and copying so they can eventually complete the task independently.

  • Unfortunately, we only provide services at our clinic in Langley.
